Day 4 - Gravenhurst 'The Wedding'

The reason for the British invasion of Gravenhurst had finally arrived. The day began with a civilised game of road hockey where a our Canadian hosts for once dropped their hospitality standards and thrashed the Brits, despite my scoring perhaps the goal of the game. I can also confirm that the fact that many of our players were shaking off the after effects of the night in the Albion had no bearing on the final score.

Anyway, the grooms party went back to Inn on the Bay for some lunch and a smarten up before at 2.15 precisely we began the slow march up to the Church. Somehow we lost our way, but the kind people in the Albion were happy to point us in the right direction and so we felt obliged to wet our whistles at the same time.

The actual ceremony went without a hitch, and not a dry eye was to be had in the place - especially mine. Not sure what went wrong but I maintain it was a stray eyelash which got me started. Anyway, my apologies to P and C for sniffing and snuffling my way through their vows. If I am allowed a moment of parental pride Jessica played her part very well, and looked fantastic in the dress that Marsha made for her. Maddy was also well behaved and provided a running commentary for everyone in case they missed the important parts.

After the ceremony we all trooped down to Blaincroft for some drinks, nibbles and photos, before making our way over to Kirrie Glen for the reception. Here speeches were spoken, drink was drunk, food was eaten, dances were danced and everyone had a great time. J and M lasted till about half way through the meal before being encouraged to sleep by their parents so that we could burn up the dancefloor. We headed back to the B & B about 11.45 thereby missing out on the Albion Part 2 (or 3 to be technically correct). Saturday night was apparently Techno night and, needless to say, the Plymouth Masif were leading the way - Gravenhurst has never seen the like.

All in all a wonderful day, not least because we were able to welcome Courtney to our family and because she clearly has made my brother a very happy man.
